Reliable CMS for Generon PSA Equipment
Carbon Molecular Sieve in Generon PSA Nitrogen Generators
SorbiTech™ supplies high performance Carbon Molecular Sieve (CMS) for Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) nitrogen generation systems. Our CMS is suitable for replacement use in a wide range of PSA nitrogen units, including Generon PSA nitrogen generators used in offshore, marine, oil and gas, petrochemical, and industrial applications. Generon’s PSA systems separate nitrogen from compressed air using PSA technology and are designed for medium to large flow rates, compact layouts, and high purity nitrogen service.
SorbiTech carbon molecular sieve grades are selected for reliable adsorption performance, stable nitrogen purity, and dependable operation in demanding process environments. It is suitable for operators looking to maintain nitrogen performance, plan CMS replacement, and support long term PSA operation.

Matching CMS to Generon’s PSA Purity Range
Generon PSA systems deliver nitrogen at purities ranging from 95% for general industrial use to 99.9995% for critical applications in oil and gas and offshore environments. Not every CMS grade covers this range equally. Selecting the right one starts with knowing where your Generon system sits within it.
For standard purity targets, SorbiTech™ offers high quality CMS Grades. CMS 260L is a practical starting point for medium flow, general industrial nitrogen generation. Moving up the purity range, CMS 350KT handles applications up to 99.999% with faster adsorption kinetics suited to Generon’s Twin Tower and Modular configurations. For Generon systems running at the higher end of offshore inerting, chemical blanketing, or precision industrial processes, CMS420KT provides the bed stability and flow consistency that those applications demand, and CMS 450HP sets the industry standard for advanced nitrogen generation because it achieves exceptional purity up to 99.99999%.
What Happens When CMS Degrades in a Generon System
In most PSA nitrogen systems, CMS degradation appears first as a gradual increase in outlet oxygen content. The generator may continue running, but the nitrogen purity no longer remains at the intended set point. In offshore and critical process applications, even small purity deviation can affect operations.
The most common causes of CMS damage include:
- Oil contamination from compressed air
- Excess moisture entering the bed
- Poor inlet air treatment
- Prolonged service life
- Improper loading or bed instability
Once oil coats the CMS pore structure, adsorption performance is usually not recoverable. Moisture can also reduce efficiency and damage long term performance. In such cases, replacing the CMS bed is the practical solution to restore nitrogen separation performance.
Getting the Right CMS to the Right Place
For Generon operators in standard plant environments, CMS supply is usually straightforward: the correct grade and quantity delivered to site ahead of a planned maintenance window. For offshore and remote installations, the process requires more preparation, but the selection approach remains the same.
The starting point is always the Generon system model, vessel dimensions, and target nitrogen purity. These details determine the appropriate CMS grade and the required fill quantity. Snowstorm filling guidance and compression pad recommendations can also be provided to support proper bed loading and long term stability.
Technical Data Sheets and Safety Data Sheets are available for each grade to meet documentation requirements. This is especially important for offshore and marine supply chains where material traceability is required.
